I’ve been skating this Blackhole deck that John Lucero had given me while visiting the Label compound several weeks ago. And for the most part, this board has lived up to my regular rigors of liquor store runs through the neighborhood and general skatepark abuse. Stemming from the common “wheel well” designed decks of the 70s and 80s, this very functional 7 ply plank was co-developed and re-introduced with master skateboard craftsman Paul Schmitt. Its primary design is once again targeted specifically towards the elimination of wheel bite for those skaters that generally ride looser trucks and/or larger wheels.
In layman’s terms the board’s construction employs wheel wells to provide an added 4mm of clearance between the wheel’s riding surface and the underside of the skateboard.
Fed up with landing your tricks only to feel wheel bite and then suddenly and unexpectedly getting pitched to the pavement for your efforts? Well then definitely check this board out! There’s a good chance that those unneeded mishaps will be a thing of the past for you…without tightening your trucks. If you ride tight ass trucks, then there’s no need for you to consider this board’s benefits…you roll like a robot.
Black Label’s Blackhole deck is available in three distinct sizes: Medium 7.75” X 31.5”, Large 8” X 31.625” and X Large 8.25” X 32.125”. The wheel wells are 3 plys deep, allow up to approximately 4mm of additional clearance, and measure in at: 2.5” X 1.25”.
If you aren’t turning, you aren’t skating. Wheel bite sucks! Plain and simple.
