Emerica - Transist

From the folks at Emerica and the mind of Ed Templeton come the new Transist. These are easily some of the most basic shoes to come out of the Emerica camp in a while. In this market where everyone wants a basic, thin vulcanized shoe…that’s a good thing.

Let’s get the obvious thing out of the way. At first glance the Transist has the profile of a Vans Old Skool. The ‘suede’ toe cap and heel, the canvas center…it’s close. That being said, it does have a cupsole rather than a vulcanized sole as well as the Sole Tech STI FOAM insole for a bit more support. At best it’s a hybrid.

While not as flexible as some vulcanized soles, the Transist is quite thin and has fantastic board feel. In addition the cup sole seems to take a longer, tougher beating than a vulcanized sole and has held up quite well so far. Another plus is the fake suede toe which has decent grab on the board and has stood the test of time. I’m also a huge fan of synthetic materials and have to thank Ed for keeping his shoes animal free all these years as a few others have jumped ship.

This is certainly one of my favorite shoes in recent years, so hats off to Emerica for creating a simple, functional shoe that is thin, comfortable and fairly tough. Visit their site to check out all the color ways currently available. I know they had some limited Ed Templeton art based editions…but they may be long gone to collectors. Besides, you want to actually skate in these, right?
