The Pharmacy Video

Shop videos seem to be getting better and better. Once a low budget way to promote local talent, shop videos have grown into full blown, well produced, perfectly shot skating showcases. That being said, Portland’s Cal’s Pharmacy (and director / editor Mike Richardson) have set the bar even higher with their latest film, The Pharmacy Video.

Skaters included are : Jayme Fortune, Matt Beach, Tyler Bledsoe, Joe Hargrave, Matt Hanson, Jesse Bracewell, Craig McKendry, Mike Derrick, Phil Trotter, Josh Falk, Chris Stuker, Mike Chin, Robert Bemis, and Nick Palmquist. Some of these names you’ve heard of and those you haven’t…you will soon, no question. You may think that with Portland being the skatepark capital of the US you would get concrete park skating by the truckload. Nope. Not one. And that’s a good thing. These guys are 100% pure street and proud of it. Insane spots and a sizable bag of tricks keep each skater interesting. I’m not going to go into trick lists…it’ll take too damn long and won’t do the skaters justice. Just go buy the film.

The DVD special features deliver in a big way. There’s a lengthy section devoted to the Pharmacy’s indoor skatepark the Dept. You’ll wish you had a training ground like this in your city. Two recent layouts of the park are featured and the team (as well as guest skaters) destroy the place. There is also substantial bonus footage and alternate edits. Once again, it’s hard to believe this is a shop video.

Portland has some insane skating talent, a solid scene and the team over at The Pharmacy are leading the way. Pick up the DVD and get inspired to get your shop video together. It won’t be as good…but you’ll have fun trying.
