DVS - Skate More Video

As he was busy shredding new terrain and causing a ruckus on the “Skate More” European tour, DVS’ VP of Marketing, Tim Gavin saw to it that we received an advance copy of DVS’ recently premiered “Skate More” video. Thanks Gav. From the first viewing, this skate film grabs you and doesn’t let go. Overall, the skating and filming is phenomenal, the creativity is exciting and well thought through and distinctly, the editing is solid gold. The Monty Python inspired motion graphics and titles don’t disappoint either. To note, Colin Kennedy produced one hell of visual showcase of DVS’ skate crew for millions of skaters in the world to absorb and enjoy.

Popping things off, Mike Taylor’s opening segment with humorous rants is backed by a strong display of skills that reveal equal sides of his brain. Tons of switch skills to match with the regs, this kid is certainly on top of his game. In the limelight of this opener, he hits up various streets and spots of the world while enjoying the ride with finesse and style.

Next up, Kerry Getz’ “hockey temper” fuels induced screams and tirades which then flare up and burn into a sick segment accompanied by Alphaville”s “Forever Young”. It’s always good to see the nocturnal one pushing the pavement of the east and beyond with his distinctive board control. Despite the absence of switch skating in his part, Keith Hufnagel’s raw arsenal of talent (captured with some great follow cam footage) is magical to see within the urban landscape. Mix in Huf’s rapid-fire ollies, hill bombs, controlled speed and signature pop to truly capture the true essence and foundation of street skating. Huf’s part stands up as one of his best ever. Jeron Wilson follows with a grip of manual variations and whips out a segment full of technical expertise.

Moving on, let me say it here. Jason Dill’s knee high socks and semi-mulleted frohawk depict the likes of a time traveled roadie from an 80s rock band or perhaps a lost carnie from Coney Island. In any case, Dill’s odd and questionable flair compliments his unique smorgasbord of difficult stunts and combos that tend to make one’s head spin. His footage shows he’s truly locked in his own world and loving every skating moment of it.

Other visual pieces that come to mind include EMB’s renowned Chico Brenes’ smooth and flowing segment to the sounds of Bill Withers’ ’”Use Me Up.” Veteran amateur Daniel Castillo and upstart Torey Pudwill share a part with assorted manual pads, banks, hips and plenty of ledges too. The highly anticipated Mystery Rider, Zared Basset shocks and drops several bombs with a relatively short piece with powerful precision. I wish he had more on film share. Next up, Dennis Buzenitz’ fast and highly versatile skating shows that he’s a major force on the rise and a true contender for 2005’s SOTY. Hit the rewind and check out his part again and again, it’s good for your mind…much like visual pushups.

Jereme Rogers claims a few new moves on tape and backs that shit up with a round of knockouts and hammers that capture the true progression of street skating today. On the mend from ankle surgery and several months off of his board, Steve Berra proved to overcome injury and put forth a ton of effort and hours with an amazing segment. He worked in plenty of 2 and 3 trick lines with confident creativeness that was great to see amongst the status quo of 1 trick hammers in most videos these days.

Deservedly, the closing segment was given to none other than Daewon Song. His montage of mishaps and slams provide a humorous prelude to an outstanding paradigm of well-balanced skills while rolling plank of wood. In his part, Daewon’s ability and creativity are truly all terrain…all, insane. Benches, ledges, ditches, banks, manual pads, flatbed truck trailers, stairs, pools, skateparks, and even walls of water are all his for the taking. After watching close to 45 minutes of this flick, you’ll soon realize that your entertainment is well worth the money you laid down for many years to come. Better yet, this film will inspire you to skate more!!!!
