Most of us know that suede is the desired shoe material of choice for its fit, comfort and function. There’s no break-in period and its surface provides a natural and consistent feel to grip tape. However, it’s never been durable enough to stand up to the daily abuses of skateboarding and no companies have tried to actually improve the suede itself.
Well, we were fortunate enough to obtain an advance pair of DC Shoe Co.’s clear-sole Lynx skate shoes made of their new Super Suede. And of this special run of only 50 pairs made, I put them to the test for a quite a few afternoons until the rain began to fall repeatedly and shut down any additional skating since. Well guess what? These fuckers are still holding up and they haven’t blown out, The only negative comment that I can mention is that the clear soles are yellowing a bit, but that was to be expected from the day I first laced them up.
DC’s Super Suede is testing at 50% stronger than regular suede. And it will be available in the following shoes this spring; Danny Way’s Signature shoe The Reign in black and dark grey, Colin McKay’s Griffin in black/gun metal and the Lynx 2 in black/cement and cement/black. Slip your feet into a pair and feel the difference in both your skateboarding and pocketbook.
