Sun Diego’s “A New Day” DVD

It’s always good to see solid skate footage of young and up-and coming skate talent and clean editing that gives you the drive to get out there as soon as the credits roll. Well, this skate shop flick from Sun Diego sets it off right from the get go with the opening segment featuring Steve McNeal and the assorted hammers in his tool box.

Skate shop videos give you a glimpse of those that are on the verge of breaking into the big leagues, those old enough to put together a solid line of tricks, but too young to make the leap just yet or those just skating for the sake of fun with their friends. Standouts in this film include Steve Shipler’s versatile skating to the classic jazz tunes of Cal Tjader with some smooth lines and follow cam work plus the young upstarts Trung Ngo, Marius Syvanen and the new kid, with one of the best names in skateboarding, Truman Hooker. This kid skates it all and will probably go far in years to come. The ever-so-popular “Friends” section brings in assorted skate spots and talent from others too. And then there’s the gnarliness of Steve Roche. He shares his part with his cohorts and slays a grip of backyard pools, parks and street spots in a black and white smorgasbord of raw sickness.

All in all, there’s a ton of veritable skate footage in here with all sorts of team riders, plus bonus features. Kyle Wilcox did a hell of a great job in editing the action along with his cohort and Producer, Paul Kobriger. You can pick up this video at one of Sun Diego’s stores or order it directly online through their site. It’s a good one to include within your skate video library.
