Clive Bags

Clive is bag company that believes in comfort. Yeah, their bags look good, but that design is dictated by how they feel on your back. Fashion led by function. Clive also knows that skaters haul around a lot of shit in their bags…everything from boards and pads to laptops and tools. You want a place for everything…and these bags deliver. Clive was kind enough to send SKATEDAILY two bags, The Stevie and The Rooftop.

For longer trips (and those people who haul a ton of stuff), The Rooftop would be the ideal choice. Designed by BMX rider, Mike “Rooftop” Escimilla (we’ll let that slide) this bag had more pockets than I knew what to do with. I really liked the padded interior laptop area and the plastic iPod sleeve. My newer iPod didn’t fit into the sleeve very well, but this was a sample model, so I’m sure it will slide in there snug when the bag hits the shops. For those of you not rocking digital sound, the bag comes with a very cool removable CD case that slips right into a side pocket. Very nice. Also super-tech is the “40-Ouncer” waterproof slot at the bottom. It allows you to store a cool beverage across the bottom of your bag in a waterproof area. Most bags just add an oversized side pocket for drinks and your bag becomes very side-heavy…Clive’s bottom solution is much better. You can also strap your board to the bag when you’re forced to walk. Of course the bag is well vented and very comfortable. I can certainly see taking this on a trip and having everything I need stored, separated, and safe.

The Stevie (designed by skater Stevie Williams’) is Clive’s smaller day pack. I’ve been using it as my day to day, holding my sketchbook, phone, iPod, food, and whatever else I could fit inside. It’s got more than a few secret pockets, and the rubber headphone slot lets your headphones out and keeps your music source in. This bag also carries a board and uses a swing away front section to do it. I liked the idea behind the basketball bottom panel, as it looked and felt very durable. I don’t know too many people that skate with a backpack on, but I did ride my mountain bike across town a few times with The Stevie bag jammed with stuff, and it felt pretty good. If you’re looking for a sturdy day pack, this is the one.

If you’re in the market for a solid, well-designed bag go to your local skate shop and check out Clive. You’ll certainly get your money’s worth.
