The Doogood Charity Rock Out
The Go Skateboarding Day (next Friday June 20th) events are certainly stacking up…but here’s one certainly worth noting from the folks at the Doogood Conservatory.
Happening at Hensley’s Flying Elephant in Carlsbad, Ca The Doogood will be putting on a big event set to hit capacity. With some thrashing psychedelic rock from Earthless and Red Octopus, the groovy old school garage DJ set, The Clean Cuts will also be laying down some tracks. No cover, but a $5 donation at the door is highly recommended (it’s for charity folks). Prizes will be raffled from Blitz, Plan B, C1RCA, CCS, Active, Sun Diego, Zumiez, Vans, Black Box, Belly Up Tavern, House of Blues, Maloof Money Cup, Gravity, Stussy, Allyance, and many more. The first 100 people to arrive after 7:30 pm will receive free tickets to The Casualties with Youth Brigade at the House of Blues San Diego! No one will go home empty handed.
More details here…feel good about giving back.

Hypebeast TV Interviews Hufnagel
Hypebeast is fairly well known as the top online magazine for street wear culture. Now they’ve branched out into video. Check out their in-depth video interview with Real pro and HUF shop owner Keith Hufnagel. The piece focuses on the new LA HUF store and brand but there is a bunch solid skate footage as well. Worth a viewing.

Sean Cliver Decks For Supreme
Long time skate artist Sean Cliver is collaborating with NYC based skate / street-wear shop Supreme and will be producing two limited edition decks. The art seems to be a throw back to the early to mid-90’s shock art that could be seen on Rocco funded brand boards. Shirts will be produced as well. We’re guessing these will go fast and be collector gold…so keep your eyes peeled.

Tony Hawk, Travel Writer
Here’s a little piece by Tony Hawk in the New York Times on air travel and the problems of having your board as a carry-on. I doubt many of us can come close to his frequent flier status, that’s for damn sure.

Nate Broussard on Skate Mental
This “Press Release” made us laugh (and it isn’t on their interweb site) so read it:
After a retarded amount of beer, Skate Mental finally got a good enough buzz to put Nate Broussard on the team. Fighting the curse of the man-am, Nate will be filming for the new Skate Mental promo due early september. “Hopefully he gets some good stuff so we don’t have to kick him off,” says brand manager Brad Staba. Not really much else to say besides skate mental is the best company known to man. All other companies should be sad and loose sleep at night knowing they will never be as good as Skate Mental. Just kidding…or am I?

Rallying Behind Johnny Romano
As we’d reported a couple of weeks ago, Real skateboard’s youngest pro, Johnny Romano is back in the hospital undergoing treatments and fighting tough against his bout with cancer.
Joining him in this fight are his family and friends, and many, many skaters all over the world. And get this, even Eric Koston stepped up for Johnny to turn the tide against Mike Mo during a friendly, but heated game of SKATE at the Berrics. Yup, good looking out Mr. Koston! Not to be slept on, The Berrics’ very own Donovan made a buttery ass custom shirt for him as well! And don’t forget that an all star cast of pros and ams including Sean Malto, Mikey Taylor and Tyler Bledsoe are ready to personally skate with Johnny at the Berrics soon! Truly amazing right?!!!
Up in the SF Bay Area, Jim Thiebaud’s sizeable mini ramp has been relocated for the gazillionth time. It’s looking good sitting outside again, this time in the Berkeley hills and Johnny has been invited to shred it too. View the invitational footy right here.
So what can the rest of us, the general, yet important worldwide community of skateboarders do? How about checking off one of these three options below from the list. Get involved and brighten this young skater’s day and provide him with the positive energy and inspiration that he needs to fight the good fight.
1. You can send a message directly to Johnny right here. Be sure to indicate: Johnny Romano - Room 910
2. You can mail cards, tee shirts, and stuff (within good taste and reason) directly to Johnny at the hospital as well.
Texas Children’s Hospital
6621 Fannin Street
Houston, Texas 77030
attn Johnny Romano - Room 910
3. You can post up messages to Johnny at the Deluxe site.
Located on the 4th page of the Real catalog section, just click and leave him words of support.
Do your part. This little guy is one of us and he needs our support!

Spreading the Goodness of Artistic Influenza
Land of Plenty’s efforts at the Artistic Influenza Board Show and fundraiser last Saturday was a complete success. Have a look and check out the gallery of hand-painted boards that were created and donated by the art students at John Burroughs High School in Burbank, CA.
If you’d like to support the Land of Plenty, make a bid on one or more of these unique boards as they are raising funds for underprivileged skateboarders. Acquire some fine art for yourself, your office, or as a gift. You’ll support artistic expression, skateboarding, community development, and the LOP’s summer programming goals.
