SF Skatepark Update
SF’s long overdue skatepark at Potrero Del Sol/La Raza Park is finally a reality. The crews at Dreamland and Grindline joined forces in a great collaborative effort to produce the shredable public facility that features a hybrid street course and an amoeba bowl armed with pool coping. Hopefully this skate area will be celebrated as the first of many skateparks (street plazas included) designated for the city formerly known for its liberal support of skateboarders. At this time, no official opening date has been set for the skatepark as the rest of the Potrero Del Sol/La Raza Park area is currently under renovation.

Vert Back In The X Games
Well, that was quick…vert is back in the X Games. That’s according to a press release posted at 9:05 last night on the EXPN site. For those keeping score that’s six days since it was announced that ESPN was pulling the U-Pipe from our televisions. Was the choice made because of Andy Mac’s threatened boycott? He seems to think so. One thing is for sure…we’ll all get to see the Shaun White circus again in 2008. Awesome.

Mike Vallely Acts
He’s been a poet, vegetarian, singer, hockey player and fighter…and now you can add actor to the list. As seen on the Transworld site, Mike V will be part of Adam Sandler’s ‘UNTITLED KEVIN JAMES COMEDY’ which hits theaters in January 2009. No word if he’ll be on his board or off. With work in both Gleaming The Cube (for stunts) and xXx (skater) he’s already graced the silver screen skate wise. Good luck Mike.

Does The Pope Skate?
Normally we steer clear of religion crossing into skating, but this one is too damn strange. Check out this AP report discussing a New York City children’s deck art contest. The goal? To design a ‘Popal Skateboard’. Seriously. They even plan to present the board to the Pope when he visits the city. Check out the Catholic School Girls skate club. Unreal.
And if Pope Benedict XVI decides to do some turns it looks like he’ll be riding Indys. I wonder if he knows the history Indy has with the previous Pope? (Story here third paragraph, image here) Maybe there could be an endorsement deal in his future?
