Checking the Zine Scene

An art exhibition exploring the realm of 1980s skate zines and Xerox art featuring the zines and art of the original makers curated by Rich Jacobs opens tomorrow night, February 9th in SF. MOVE 15: “There is Xerox on the Insides of Your Eyelids” takes place at Needles and Pens with original illustrative works from Garry S. Davis (Skate Fate), Tod Swank (Swank zine), Thomas Campbell (Joke), Chris Johanson (Karma Boarder), Andy Jenkins (Bend), Bernie McGuinn (Tiki), Kevin Wilkins (7 zine), John Dettman-Lytle (Naughty Nomads), Mark Waters (408), Rich Jacobs (Skate-Edge), Jocko Weyland (Elk, Revenge Against Boredom, and author of: The Answer is Never), Dennis Remsing (Rem zine), Dan Esabrook (Contort), Tim Kerr (Big Boys), Chris Shary (Burly Obsession zine-UK), Ron Cameron (Dope zine- a Blockhead mag, and Skate Slate), Mofo (Thrasher mag) …and others. O’Connor Gets Roasted

Last week Tim O’Connor was treated to an old fashion roast as adidas celebrated the release of his new pro shoe. Transworld had posted some footage of Tim’s friends dishing it out and now 411VM has his response to the verbal thrashings peppered with some skate footage. All in good fun…

Burton Acquires Alien Workshop and Habitat

Big news hits the skateboarding world on Super Tuesday. Today it was announced that DNA Distribution, which includes skateboarding brands Alien Workshop, Habitat and Reflex, has been acquired by Burton. Details of the acquisition are disclosed right here via the official press release.

New Directions

Recent website updates reveal that Marius Syvanen is no longer on the roster at Santa Cruz, Justin Figueroa has flown the coop at Birdhouse, Galea Momolu is no longer shredding the streets with Osiris beneath his feet and Mark Appleyard has hooked up an endorsement with the online team at CCS. One officially released bit of news is that LA’s Furby is now in curvy company over at Hubba wheels.
