No Olympic Skating In 2012 Say London Sources

The Evening Standard in the UK is reporting that skateboarding has no chance of being introduced as a “discipline” sport in the 2012 Olympic games in London. The article states that the skate based proposals did not even make the International Cycling Federation’s agenda at its recent annual congress in Germany. The ICF was to oversee the introduction of skating into the 2012 Olympics and approve its inclusion to the International Olympic Committee. Looks like the IOC has spoken…

“An IOC spokeswoman said: “BMX freestyle would be easier to introduce, as it already exists as a sport in the programme.”

So it looks like it’s official, no Gold medals for a while. When does the debate about 2020 begin?

New Benicia Park Opens

You may remember the small Northern California town of Benicia for it’s original skatepark featured in more than a few old skate videos (Natas and Julien Stranger skate it in Streets On Fire). This weekend Benicia opened it’s new park after over six years of blood, sweat and tears. And from the looks of these photos, it’ll be worth a visit. And be sure to swing by the old park…just to pay your respects.
