MegaRamp Goes Indoors

Armchair skateboarders have got to be hyped. For next week’s XGames XIII in LA, the Mega Ramp has been assembled inside of the Staples Center for maximum enjoyment of the crowd. There’s not a bad seat in the house really. It’s gonna be “Arena Sport” at its finest…or lowest depending on how you look at it.

With Danny Way out with a nagging knee injury, we tend to think Bob already has this one in the bag.

Portland Shares Its Concrete Love

The city of Portland, Oregon is certainly on a roll with the completion of its third public skate facility within a year. First Pier Park, then Glenhaven and just yesterday, Holly Farm Park (aka the Ear).

The city’s comprehensive master plan includes 3 types of skateparks — 19 in total — with 13 neighborhood skate spots, 5 district-wide skateparks, and one central city anchor park. With three of these Portland parks already open with daily sessions, and Burnside and others in nearby Vancouver and Battle Ground, WA picking up the overflow, the future is looking better and better for skaters in Stumptown…until the rain begins.

Blank Wars Hit Wall Street

The Wall Street Journal has just published a story online discussing the current blank deck battle. The author talks to NHS, Dick’s Sporting Goods and various sports marketing companies. From the article:

“But as (the customers) got more serious about boarding, many decided they just didn’t care whether they used the industry’s top products, including the pro skateboard “decks” with graphics and branding that can cost between $40 and $70 without the wheels and the axles known as “trucks.”
