Handcuffed by a Jackson

A new reality TV series is dropping next week where Weeman finds himself learning the finer lessons of police work including, “soft open hand technique” in order to gain compliance through pain. In an odd twist of fate, he finds himself submitting and being cuffed by a Jackson. Sure, Ozzy’s kid, Jack Osborne got the hell scared out of him, but the real scary thing is Latoya’s strong resemblance to her little brother Michael. Can I get a witness?

Has Pharrell Got Wind of This?

Forget the “Skurban” craze, that’s so yesterday dudes. There’s a newer, fresher mainstream catchphrase geared to describe the fusion of skate and rap cultures these days. Yes, you guessed correctly, “Scrap” is the language that defines this new movement. Read on.

For the record, this hype isn’t all that original. Hip hop and rap has been integral to skating for over twenty years now. Whatever happened to Run DMC, Public Enemy, Stetsasonic, The Beasties, MCM and the Monster, and Skatemaster Tate?
Forerunners, that’s right.

Laughing with Dick and Dick’s Decks

This hilarious video clip produced by the agents over at the Stereo Sound Agency was a promotional spot geared for a proposed show on Mtv a few months back. The deal fell through, but we’re sure those dudes are still secretively working on other projects with visual sound.

Onward…Towards a Bigger and Better Year

Looking back, the year of 2006 was one hell of a tumultuous, yet ever-progressive year for skateboarders and skateboarding. There were many good times and some not so good times. Some of the most noteworthy moments over the past twelve months are as follows:

Sadly, NYC skate legend, Harold Hunter unexpectedly died and left his family, friends, and fans shocked early in the year. Bam found himself booked and behind bars in LA. Koston picked up a noteworthy portfolio of new sponsors including new signature shoes and trucks.

Then, suddenly, a major force in skateboarding and one of its biggest fans, Fausto Vitello passed away. Moving forward, both Bob and Danny hucked themselves to achieve individual and huge superhuman feats and stunts. Reese Forbes picked up a new wheel sponsor with Jaguar seatbelts. Tony Hawk, Tim Gavin, Atiba Jefferson, and Justin Regan all found the time to get hitched to beautiful brides. The bowlriding Euros swept the Americans in Malmo. World dropped its entire team. Go Skateboarding Day is bigger than ever. The Zero team commands a “three peat” and the most points ever in Thrasher’s KOTR06. New pros emerged while others faded out and Nick Dompierre undeniably had a BIG breakthough year.

In the fall, we regained SF’s world-famous Hubba Hideout (amongst others) thanks to a crew of dedicated and clever midnight marauders. And within days, top ams and pros made a pilgrimage to the city to set benchmarks with newer progessive stunts on a renowned piece of skate history. The right side has recently been re-knobbed with the left soon to follow. Time to get your’s soon!

Lastly, Pat Duffy suffered a bad injury to his right leg on Bob’s Mega Ramp and Salman Agah has been sidelined at home nursing seven fractured ribs, a punctured right lung and partially separated shoulder from a dirt biking accident.

As this year comes to a close, both Chris and I wish all of you the best of success, health, freedom, and skateboarding in 2007.

We’ll see you out there.
