Posted by bkAccording to a press release we’ve just recieved, Skatelab has signed Brandolution to be its world wide licensing agency.
Skatelab, which opened in Simi Valley just north of Los Angeles in 1997, is described by many has the holy grail of skateboard parks and was just recently voted “best skate shop in the country by Sports Illustrated for Kids.” Skatelab is also the home of the Skateboarding Hall of Fame, the only skateboarding museum in the country and gets visitors daily from all over the world.
“Skatelab has signed Brandolution to lead their efforts in creating a national and accessible line of branded merchandise aimed at the 8-15 year old boy. Jem Sportswear has been signed as the apparel licensee to create t-shirts for boys and young men and plans to introduce the line at major retailers in Spring, 2007.
Melissa Segal, founder of Brandolution, comments, “Skateboarding is the fastest growing sport in America and currently the third most popular high school sport after basketball and football with 11 million kids and adults currently participating in the sport. Skatelab is the real deal – an authentic incubator for some of the best skaters in the world and a natural brand to extend into products that cater to the core target audience and their lifestyle.”
Todd Huber, founder and co-owner of Skatelab remarks, “We think there is a tremendous opportunity to create a Skatelab brand of merchandise. Ask almost any skater in the world if they have heard of Skatelab, and they will say yes.”
Brandolution is seeking licensees in the areas of accessories, footwear, home furnishings, stationery, beverages, interactive games and sporting goods/equipment including quality skateboards and gear.”
After all of these years of fuckin’ around, Dan Drehobl has finally learned what it means to turn. Yep, he’s just jumped over to the proper side of the fence and now kills it on Indys. Read the official press release at the Trife.
Posted by bkSome of you may be familiar with Mel Bend (aka Andy Jenkins) amazing skate comic Wrench Pilot which featured ‘everyman’ skater ‘Lettus Bee’. It ran as two page spreads in Transworld Skateboarding from 1989- 1991. Lettus can be seen currently in The Skateboard Mag and in various other skate related locations.
Well, in 2007 Wrench Pilot fans will have more than a few things to look forward to. Lakai will be releasing a limited line of footwear featuring the adventures of Lettus as well as a hoodie, shirts, patches, pins and stickers. Take a sneak peak at the ad here. If that wasn’t enough Upper Playground will be releasing a vinyl figure of our hero in the spring.
Thanks of course to Bend Press for keeping the slappy shredding legacy of Wrench Pilot alive and skating.

Posted by ChrisWe’ve received a first hand account of Quiksilver’s North Shore Bowl Jam that took place this past Saturday and details reveal that the 12 man final jam was nothing short of madness. In fact, the 45 minutes of bowl action was so haphazard and heavy that many collisions and resulting injuries marked the event. Chris Miller knocked out a tooth and sustained a deep cut from his lip up towards his nose, Omar Hassan split his chin open, Bob cracked a rib or two, Danny Way took home a severe hipper, and Jeff Grosso received a gash above his eye in a collision with Lance Mountain. Rune Glifberg dodged the drama and pain to emerge on top.
Top finalists
1. Rune Glifberg - $8,500
2. Bob Burnquist - $1,000
3. Omar Hassan - $500
4. Danny Way - $200
5. Jimmy Marcus - $200
6. Chris Miller - $200
7. Tyler Mumma - $200
8. Lance Mountain - $200
Look for details in a magazine or two in the coming months. The official site has no information or photos posted yet.
