SKURBAN!

You might have heard that marketing companies are finally burnt out on the word extreme. Well, it’s high time for a new catch all word that groups the latest trend of hip-hop, skateboarding and ‘straight from the street’ fashion. Ladies and gentlemen please welcome ‘Skurban’.

From the article:
“Urban fans are now incorporating the fashion and lifestyle of skateboarding, experimenting with both skateboarding as a look and active sport.”

Finally a term that defines the look of skateboarding with or without the act of actually skating. Sounds like a winner.

Brian Tucci Interview

Those of you from the Washington DC area certainly know the name Brian Tucci. Brian was one of the first skaters to dominate the now legendary Pulaski Park. He is also remembered for his huge ollies and solid part in the second H-Street video, Hokus Pokus. Brian Tucci was one of the few skaters responsible for putting the east coast street skating on the map in the early 90’s.

Focus Skateboard Mag has posted an interview with Tucci that has him discussing everything from the start of his career, his H-Street days, his San Francisco time up to his current skate status. Enjoy and learn.

ABC Highlights Vans At 40

ABC News is jocking the ‘California lifestyle culture’ and has posted a story highlighting 40 years of Vans shoes.

“In 1976, skateboard legends Tony Alva and Stacy Peralta designed the simple blue Vans #95, known as the “Era,” which became the shoe of choice for a generation of skateboarders.”

Ummm…we don’t think so. Those guys, and the rest of the original Dogtown crew, adopted the shoe because of it’s sticky gum sole but they certainly didn’t “design” it.

And be sure and check out the photo gallery to see an ad for the infamous breakdancing shoe.

Steve Berra Checks In

We just got an email from one Steve Berra:

Steve Berra here. I’ve been pretty scarce for the past year since SKATE MORE wrapped and it’s only because I’ve been directing a movie I wrote that recently got accepted into competition at the Sundance Film Festival. I didn’t know if you guys were aware so I thought I’d send you a link to the Variety magazine announcement (scroll down to ‘The Good Life’. I’ve just finished the film and am already back in action filming for the new Alien Workshop video.

Good to hear from you Steve.
