Advertising Drops In
The Apple TV ad touched on skating…but many large companies are featuring skateboarding in their ads in a much larger way.
Check out this spot from FedEX encouraging in-office ramp riding. And then there is this Jeep ad with Tony Hawk going frontside in a Wrangler.

Bowl Jamming on the North Shore
As the sun sets on Saturday, December 9th, some of the best skateboarders in the world will gather to mix it up in a one-of-a-kind event in the backyard bowl of Hawaiian skater Steve “Cholo” Ellis.
Quiksilver’s North Shore Bowl Jam will bring together the skills of 25 of today’s top riders to compete for a piece of $10,000 in cash. This unique contest features a “rider’s choice” judging format where the competitors will pick their own favorites and determine the winner.
Cholo’s butter-smooth amoeba shaped bowl was built in 2004 by the elite Dreamland Skateparks crew to the specifications of North Shore staple and lifelong skater, Steve Ellis.
Riders competing in the event were hand picked and feature a great mix of styles from legends like Danny Way and Steve Caballero, to top pros including Arto Saari, Rune Glifberg and Omar Hassan.
Vans will host a Hawaiian wildcard competition earlier in the day. The top two Hawaiians from the wildcard comp will join the 23 pro riders in the main event Saturday night. The top Hawaiian in the competition will receive a “golden ticket” entry into the third annual Vans Pro-Tec Pool Party to take place in May of 2007.

Gonz Action Figure?
We just had this link forwarded to us…it seems to be some sort of Mark Gonzales action figure?! It doesn’t look like The Gonz and the helmet is an interesting choice.
This guy also has a few other skate related artist figures going for big money. They include Barry McGee (Twist), Bigfoot, Shepard Fairey and Neckface (complete with Sabbath shirt, mask and skateboard). Collect them all.

Pharell Says Skateboarding Is Ungrateful
Pharell Williams never actually said he could skate, but that didn’t stop him from blowing open doors for the rest of us. Says Williams,”I can’t see why anyone would ever be mad at me for helping to push the door open for everybody else.” He continues, “I go and speak in high school, colleges - Oxford once, Harvard twice.”
For all those who have profited from Oxford and Harvard students picking up boards and supporting skateboarding…you now know who to thank. Buy Pharell an ice cream cone or something.
Here’s a video of Pharell and crew giving back to skating on BET.

Handstands And Holmes
Photo legend Mofo gave us the heads up on this photo featuring Christian Hosoi posing with cover girl Patti McGee. Patti was the first skater to grace the cover of a magazine with a LIFE cover back in May of 1965.
Interesting how the article was called ‘Skateboard Mania - And Menace : A tetter-totter on wheels is the risky new fad’. Forty years later and little has changed from the mainstream media.
