Third Strike on SF’s Locked Spots
Unfreezing SF’s legendary skate spots one step at a time, a small group of tenacious and unnamed liberators have freed up another downtown hot spot this week. Weeks ago, it began with Pier 7, then Hubba, and now this joint. Yes, California street’s “Cardiel ledges” are ready for action (check the rails tossed in the shrubs).
* Get to it, but be sure to bring along your police scanner. The heat is on up here. Tickets were issued at Pier 7 yesteday.

Bob Burnquist, And His New Ramp, Profiled In The New York Times
The New York Times posts a solid profile on Bob’s new mega ramp located on his compound in Vista. Costing $280,000, it’s the world’s only permanent mega ramp. From the article:
“Approximately 360 feet long, the ramp is 75 feet high at its apex. That is where riders begin their run, speeding down a 180-foot-long roll-in to a ramp that launches them across a 70-foot gap with trapeze netting below. Landing on a 27-foot sloped section, they then boost up to 50 feet above the ground from a 30-foot quarterpipe. A shorter route begins with a 55-foot-tall platform leading to a 50-foot gap, and the 30-foot quarterpipe.”
They go on to detail Burnquist’s roots and career history. The story also includes video and a detailed composite ramp graphic.

Daewon Song Named as Thrasher’s 2006 Skater of the Year
Daewon Song has earned a very well-deserved award of skateboarding excellence. Yestersday, he was named as Thrasher magazine’s 2006 SOTY. From their site, “Daewon represents the best things about skateboarding…innovation, dedication, progressions, the hunt for new spots, and constantly teetering on the edge of on-board insanity. For over 15 years Daewon has amazed us with his unique approach to both tricks and terrain, and as his mind-melting mini-ramp part in Cheese and Crackers can attest, he shows no signs of slowing. There are only a handful of true legends in skateboarding and even fewer that seem to get better after 10 years as a pro. Daewon is one of them. His creativity and drive is overshadowed only by his fun-loving attitude and generosity. Thrasher magazine is proud to honor Daewon Song as our 2006 Skater of the Year.”
Congratulations Daewon!

Hubba Opts for G Rating?
Don’t let the headline above fool you. It would certainly never happen. This afternoon, MySpace had deleted Hubba wheels from its massive volume of online profiles. The actual reason for the ejection wasn’t disclosed, but it’s a sure bet that it has to do with the brand’s usual suspects and gals like this.
Be sure to visit their new updated site for more info and such.
