GvR Kicks Off Today

The massive etnies GvR starts today. If you’re in the area you already know about this event, but if you don’t check out a schedule here. The rider list is huge, the money is sizable and the Beastie Boys are going to be performing (with KROQ stepping in to help).

Are Skateboard Mag’s Dave Swift and the Goofy’s going to take the title or will SLAP Magazine’s Mark Whiteley and Joe Brook and the Regular squad come out on top? Time will tell…

Certainly Not The First, Definitely Not The Last

The highly anticipated official opening of Portland, Oregon’s Pier Park took place last Saturday on October 14th. By most accounts the event was a great time and approximately 500 people showed up to skate the new forms of crete. This new park is the first of 19 pre-approved skate parks in the Portland area. Next up is the Glenhaven project.

These two parks are paid for, the remaining 17 are subject to ongoing fundraising events through the PDX skating community and both private and public contributions. With the creative minds and efforts of skaters young and old … the sky is certainly the limit.

Dakine to Burn Vegetable Oil on West Coast Tour

Dakine has partnered with the Grease Not Gas organization to take a skate tour on the road from San Diego to Seattle this month. Dakine team riders Paul Machnau, Jeron Wilson, Brent Atchley, Kyle Berard, Tyler Bledsoe, Jesse Landen, and Chris Haslam will pile into a Grease Not Gas RV for an eight day, 1300 mile trip up the West Coast visiting retailers, signing autographs and doing demos.

The Grease Not Gas mission is to create social change through alternative fuels. The organization’s RV runs solely on vegetable oil, emitting no cancer causing exhaust or sulfur dioxide (which causes acid rain), and leaving everyone in its path craving french fries.

Outrageously Boulala

Just under a year ago, the dynamic of the etnies skate team was forever changed with the addition of Ali Boulala. This January, Ali will take etnies to realms it’s never seen before with his first etnies pro model, the Ali. And considering the Ali is a direct reflection of his eclectic personality, the shoe couldn’t be more appropriately named.

Ali is the undisputed champion of modern skateboarding flair, and he chose to integrate this into the look of his shoe by including lace, a faux ruby on the tongue, another ruby on the heel panel and cowboy-boot-inspired deco stitching on the toe and heel panels.  The result of taking Ali’s reputation, personality and design input into consideration, as well as a slim skate silhouette and etnies’ thinnest cup sole ever, is a skateboarding shoe that effortlessly combines performance, style, technology and a little bit of fun.
