Calling All Stunts…
Something mysterious has been happening around specific regions of SF in recent weeks. It began with Pier 7 just last month and now Hubba Hideout has experienced similar effects of liberation. Good work dudes.
Skaters, photographers and film crews better get their’s soon, before the impending clampdown.
Next stop, Black rock.

The 60s in Motion
Long before most of us were alive, skateboarding emerged on the streets and sidewalks of North America very limited in scope and scale. Here’s a grip of skate flicks to give you a glimpse of just how far we’ve come since those years.
A clip of hippy jumps and sidewalk surfing from 1965’s “Skater Dater”.
Flamboyant footwork and clay wheels unite at the 1965 American Skateboard Championships on ABC TV.
The National Film Board of Canada’s 1966 dark and negative cult classic, “The Devils Toy”.
An official skateboard race from Hollywood in the 1967 film, “It’s a Bikini World”.
And then came the 70s, the urethane wheel, and Jay.

Z-Boys Birthplace To Be Demolished
The most important skate shop in history is set to be demolished. The Original Zephyr Shop building in Santa Monica has a date with the bulldozer to make way for 14 residential units, underground parking and retail space. It certainly seems like a skateboarding landmark that deserves fighting for. From the article:
“A building can be designated as a landmark as long as it meets at least one of six criteria — cultural significance, architectural significance, artistic significance, historic personages, sense of location and significant architect, said Commission Chairman Nina Fresco.”
Frankly we can’t think of a building that has more cultural significance than the location where modern skateboarding was born. Fingers crossed on this one.
