Living Against the Grain

Hurley has created a cool and insightful slideshow from it’s recent collaborative artshow celebrating the illicit foundations and colorful culture of pool skating. Appropriately titled as “Against the Grain”, the show brought together many friends, photographers, artists, and musicians at both of its openings in Costa Mesa and ASR in San Diego. Plans are being made to perhaps bring the collection of works to Europe, Japan and beyond.

Nike SB Sponsors Tampa Am and Pro Events

From the industry blogger all the way up to the company CEO, these days the words “core” and “grassroots” get readily thrown around by just about everyone in skateboarding. But when it comes down to it, the crew that holds the annual Am and Pro Contests every year at Skatepark of Tampa are some of the only people that have consistently stayed true to the meaning of both words.

It is because of what the guys at Skatepark of Tampa represent and have accomplished for skateboarding over the past 14 years that Nike SB is proud to announce its sponsorship of their annual Am and Pro Contests.

“We’re excited to work with Nike for several reasons,” says SPOT’s founder Brian Schaefer. “For one, we’ll be able to set the purse where we’ve always wanted it to be. But also, the ambition that Nike SB is willing and able to put into the event will make a big difference. Having our team work with Nike on all the elements will make the contests better overall.”

For the past 13 years the Tampa Am and Tampa Pro have not only set the bar and tone for what defined skateboard contests, but also brought together the global skateboard community for several memorable gatherings. Together with Nike Skateboarding, Skatepark of Tampa will continue this tradition and raise the bar for what remains to be each year’s most anticipated events.

Jackass Number 2 Is Number 1

Yes, they’ve done it again…Jackass 2 raked in $28.1 million dollars this weekend to top the weekend box office. Director Jeff Tremaine and Producer Spike Jonze made it to number one with the original Jackass film back in 2002 with 21.8 million so this makes two in a row.

From the article: “Jackass Number Two” cost just $11.5 million to make and took in slightly more than that on Friday alone. Males accounted for two-thirds of the movie’s audience, with 71 percent of the crowd younger than 25, according to Paramount.”

Is Jackass going to turn into a trilogy? Can all the cast members stay alive? Only time will tell…
