Action Buzz On Yahoo!

Looks like Yahoo! is the latest company to jump on the skate/action sports online bandwagon with their video show, Action Buzz.

Their first broadcast has coverage of this year’s éS Game of the Skate and Thrasher’s Skater of the Year contest as well as a bit about a politician named ‘Thrasher’. Not bad, but who the hell is Johnny Bell? And Barney McDoob? Come on…

Foul Bawl?

Years ago, skaters were the target of hatred by jocks. They hated us and we hated them. Simple and straight up, there was a very apparent divide between our unruly, misunderstood subculture and their love for coached, mainstream team sports.

Well, in today’s world the tables have obviously turned. Looking for the next buck, America’s favorite pastime has meshed its influence with likeminded jocks and skaters to produce this new brand. Ready to rock the skatespots and ballparks near you.

Tom Green Bails An Ollie

Friend of T-Hawk and P-Rod, Tom Green took a fall this week while attempting an ollie and broke his leg.

“What I was trying to do wasn’t all that dangerous, just a massive ollie. I’m just kicking myself,” Green said.

In true Tom Green fashion he’s decided to air the operation on his broken limb during his online show. Sounds like a must see. Follow the action on his blog as well.

The Resurrection of Pier 7

Just a little heads up for those of you living and/or skating in the greater SF Bay Area. SF’s legendary waterfront skate spot known as Pier 7 has recently been liberated by a dedicated and secretive skate saint. Yes, as bizarre as it may seem, skating has been happening there once again on the regs, so have a go before it’s too late. Otherwise, you’ll be left to roll on a cheap suburban imitation.

EA Announces Upcoming Release of SKATE

Electronic Arts announced today that its upcoming game SKATE will be released for the PlayStation3 system and the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system in 2007. SKATE will deliver the feel of skating through innovative controls, authentic cameras and a fully reactive skateboarding city. The game features professional skaters such as Danny Way and PJ Ladd, with several other top professionals to be announced in the near future.

“Our game offers a skate mecca for both skaters and gamers in search of the definitive authentic skating video game experience,” said Scott Blackwood, executive producer, EA Black Box. “We’re focused on capturing the actual feeling of skating with the innovative control system, the physics driven animations, and the intelligent cameras working together to really deliver the closest thing to being on a board.”

SKATE’s unique control scheme captures the true feel of skating versus the typical button mashing gameplay of past skating games. Featuring physics-driven animations, gamers will have a unique gaming experience every time they pick up the controller since no two tricks will ever be the same.

Developed by EA Black Box in Vancouver, British Columbia, SKATE will deliver all the style, fun, and creativity of skateboarding without the countless hours of practice, broken bones and hospital visits.
