Save Oakland’s DIY Skate Spot

California’s state run agency Caltrans recently posted a notice of encroachment at the renowned DIY Spot in Oakland, and they have definitive plans to take action against the skaters building at the site. As mentioned elsewhere, there’s a real threat they’ll demolish the whole thing sooner than later. Please do your part for the larger skateboarding community and sign this online petition and voice your opinion reasonably and respectfully to help legalize the spot once and for all.

positive use of unused space.
FYI the news reporter who originally covered the story is retired (Hank Plante) but still does specials for CBS5 in East Bay. Sacramento Bee and Oakland Tribune also did articles and their reporters are still on staff. Marjie Lundstrom of the Sacramento Bee (mlundstrom@sacbee.com) and Cecily Burt of the Oakland Tribune (www.insidebayarea.com)
Please keep the dream alive and contact them
CITY GOVERNMENT IS SO FULL OF SHIT!! DIY IS THE ONLY WAY TO GET SOMETHING LIKE THIS DONE. IT DOESN’T COST THE CITY ANY MONEY, BUT YET THEY WANT TO DESTROY IT! WE RAISED MONEY FOR A PARK FOR OVER A YEAR, JUST TO WATCH US NEVER GET A PARK!!! AND THEY WONDER WHY KIDS DON’T RESPECT AUTHORITY AND TRY TO GO ABOUT IT THE “LEGAL” WAY?! BUILD PARKS OR THIS WILL HAPPEN PERIOD. I BET OAKLAND HAS PLENTY OF SPORTS PARKS!!
I was curious if you ever thought of changing the page layout of your blog? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having 1 or two images. Maybe you could space it out better?
