Alley Jam To Benefit Bend’s Division Street Skate Park
Posted by Derek - August 27th, 2010 8:46 am
Typhoon! and Bo Asian Bistro will host a special fundraiser to benefit Bend’s Division Street Skate Park (DSSP) on Saturday, August 28 from 3 pm until 10 pm in downtown’s Tin Pan Alley (behind the Franklin Crossing Building) between Franklin Ave. and Minnesota Street.
The Division Street Skatepark Project, the brainchild of local skaters, is currently in the process of raising construction funds. Situated on Division Street under the Bend Parkway, the land is currently vacant and strewn with large boulders. The project crew has formed a 501(c)3 nonprofit in order to secure grants and funds for building the park. Inspired by Burnside skate park in Portland, the founders plan to follow their example of revitalizing a potential blighted area by building a skate park to the highest standards and maintaining control of the project through development and usage.

Baltimore Police Officer Fired
Posted by bk - August 25th, 2010 9:40 pm
In a news shocker for all those directly involved, Baltimore’s brash and hot-headed cop has been fired stemming from a now-famous incident with a 14-year old skateboarder which was caught on tape just over three years ago. The Baltimore Sun reports that the Baltimore Police Commissioner overruled a disciplinary panel’s recommendation today and released veteran officer Salvatore Rivieri from his duties immediately. He was within a year of retirement with full benefits. Apparently there’s truth to the saying, “Payback is a bitch.”
