Maloof Breaks Ground in NYC

What better way to kick into spring then to officially break ground at the site of the Maloof Money Cup, New York City edition. Check out some coverage of yesterday’s event at Flushing Meadows Park in Queens that signals the beginning of the construction of the contest site and future skatepark over at NYSkateboarding.com and ESPN.

It’s surprising to me that there aren’t a ton of replies on this post after reading the ones on Dyrdek’s deal. What the MMC is doing here seems pretty positive all around. There are some real stand-up people involved and the best part is they leave a great park behind for the locals and any one else who happens past it. They’re giving something back, which is how it should be.
Yeah, you can’t argue with the honest intent for a group or company giving back to skateboarding at this level. The MMC people are doing what is right and needed for the skaters of New York. And Dyrdek is lining his pockets with corporate cash for an exclusive League without putting something tangible back to the skaters on the streets.
GO MMC!!! DOWN WITH SKATE LEAGUES!!!
I’m so hyped on this. I’m hoping it’s going to lead the way for other permanent contest parks.
I’m trying not to hate on dyrdek’s thing because to each their own, but the Maloof FMP deal is so right on on that it makes all temporary contest plazas look like environmentally irresponsible, commercially driven enterprises with no kick back for the everyday skaters.
