Rob Dyrdek Launches His Street League
Posted by bk - March 24th, 2010 10:52 am
As we’d alluded to a few weeks ago, backed by a million dollar prize purse and a 3-stop arena tour, Rob Dyrdek has officially announced the launch of his professional skateboarding Street League today along with the birth of its website. With this announcement it has been disclosed that Chris Cole, Ryan Sheckler, Greg Lutzka, Torey Pudwill, PJ Ladd, Sean Malto, Mike Mo Capaldi, Mikey Taylor, Billy Marks, Tommy Sandoval, and Paul Rodriguez have signed exclusive agreements to compete at this level this summer. Is this the future of competitive street skating? Only time will tell.

lame
So lame…….
Why build a cememt street park INSIDE an arena just to tear it down and build another at the next arena? The lameness would diminish if they built the plazas permanently for the contest cities. Donated to the cities as permanent skateparks. Ohhhh, but then they wouldn’t be able to charge entry for all the little grom spectators and their parents!
Rob Dyrdek… Ryan Sheckler…Paul Rodriguez…
Yeah. I’ll take a pass on this one.
I’ll go check out the Oregon Tri-Fecta instead. Thanks.
Steroids…
sorry rob wack idea.
why don’t you just pay all those skaters listed X amount of money.
and then
fly to different cities and do FREE demos, with money for a best trick ONLY
for a local skate in that community.
why make it a comp for the pros, just givem the money, and have them skate with the kids, the homies.
it’s getting harder and harder to argue that skating is not a sport when people do shit like this. bunch of marks getting together to do the same fucking tricks they always do then all have a big circle jerk atop a pile of money afterwords. this dead horse is getting beaten, breastfed and buttfucked.
We all know that the commercialization of skateboarding is WAK. But its inevitable that skateboarding will be on the cover of the NY Times sports section, which will be WAK. Rob’s big ass diamonds are WAK but winning a million dollars sounds pretty SICK!
Does this mean these guys can’t be in any other contest? The press release says “exclusive contract’.
With The Berrics game of skate, it seemed like the sport was for the first time a game with set rules and able to be bet on. Others did it before Berrics but not like this. Rob is taking it to the next level and obviously is looking to create something that will be EXACTLY the same as other sports. I bet he is laughing while reading all the negative comments. Not so sure I am psyched, but someone was going to do it. How do we keep the underground anti-league alive?
Well said, Buck Chin The Realtor. The reason they don’t do that is because they wouldn’t make any money. Bummer that most things people with means do has to revolve around the all mighty dollar. The rich get richer.
Rob has a million dollar purse?
This is jock sh*T. Rob can’t hang, so now he’s got to slang?

Competition is inherent in human beings as much as artistic expression, even in art there is competition, why there will be no art in competition?
I love Gonz, I love P-Rod, I love Jason Jesse, I love Penny, I love Luan, even i love Jefff Kendall, I love skaieboarding!!
For sure the league is going to be a good show
haters. rob’s a tool, but really, who fucking cares?
i do like that one dude’s idea to build plazas that’ll stay up after the contest. MALOOF!! so amped on that FMP shit!
Sounds like the NFL…top guys get paid mega bucks while the guys in the trenches that make things happen get table scraps. We’ll need teams next like the LA Handrailers and then he can start a draft for guys to join his little club…oops I meant league.
The idea is ok, I don’t understand some of the comments.
Skateboarding is becoming just another sport, because three more contests will take place every yr? I don’t think the impact will be that big.
No NBA millionar (I like the maloof cups) is starting the series. A true skateboarder is behind this (who also knows how to make some money).
This does not change you or your skating ,we have world cup for 20yrs , always change happens in skating,no one is goin to steal skateboarding! 36yrs deep
a “true skateboarder is behind this” … enh I’m not so sure.
The real skateboarders are the ones out there that skate every day cause they love it not cause they are jocks trying to win at skateboarding and “get paid.”
and it may not change my skateboarding… but as skateboarding gets more and more competitive, and more and more corporate it will change for generations below us. If things keep going this way skateboarding will be just like baseball and other competitive sports that don’t allow any creativity and have crazy-ass coaches yelling at everyone
@Lurper
Just because you get paid big bucks means, you are no more a skateboarder? Where do you draw the line, is P-Rod still a skateboarder in your book, what about Reynolds, Cole, Way and all the others?
Lame is the only word to describe this.
oooh, and Rob will Wigga-isly put that wack web 2.0 button looking logo on a new era cap. STOOOOPS!! I see dead people!!
Oh my GOD! now there is a excellent way to fix your RROD I just found out today. Check my link posted. If it does not work try rrod-fix-pro dot com.
Very informative post. I’ve found your blog via Bing and I’m really glad about the information you provide in your posts. Btw your sites layout is really messed up on the Chrome browser. Would be cool if you could fix that. Anyhow keep up the good work!
