Billabong has announced today that it has entered an exclusive 10-year agreement to license the California-based skateboard brand Plan B where the company will operate out of the Element headquarters in Irvine, CA.
Element’s Founder and President Johnny Schillereff said, “The Billabong group’s unwavering support has helped Element blaze the trails we’ve always dreamed of. Plan B is iconic and deep within the fabric of skateboarding and we couldn’t be happier to unite with them.”
Professional skateboarders and team riders Danny Way and Colin McKay will continue to ride for and own Plan B Skateboards. Vice President Tom Jones will continue to oversee the brand and team which includes Paul Rodriguez, Ryan Sheckler, PJ Ladd and Pat Duffy.
We are very excited to bring the Plan B family to The Billabong group and form this new skate distribution with Element,” says Colin McKay. “Billabong and Element clearly understand brand building. Danny, the team and I couldn’t be happier with the opportunity to leverage their strengths and help Plan B reach its full potential.”
Element and Plan B products will be available through Branch Skateboarding Distribution.

Death of 2 brands…
Well, that’s that.
considering that both of those brands were already oversaturated and blown out in the mall, who cares.
If anyone has any idea of what Plan B has meant to skateboarding, you would see this as a great move. The wood was always good, now it will be even better, T Puds is the newest recruit, and the future looks great for the team. Now just drop the video in 2010 and raise the bar again. There are a number of brands that are saturated in the mall, even DLX is there. Shut up and skate.
The Element curse will be in full effect.
amen, ERL. Amen.
Wood had never been Syndrome’s strong point (remember this is the company that featured the crappy version of Zorlac). PJ Ladd usually doesn’t even ride Plan B decks. Element, despite being a mall brand, uses an excellent woodshop. So the quality will get better.
Current Plan B != Old Plan B
GSM group is just getting bigger and bigger.
Best thing to happen to skateboarding in like…forever!
Sounds to me like all those bloated contracts finally got the best of danny and Colin to the point they had no choice but to sell it off—truly pathetic.
It sound be the info that those guys still own the company. How they can still ride for and collect payments from DC (Quiksilver) and Plan B (Billabong) as competing surf brands is a bit mind blowing.
How can surf companies be “running” this skate industry anyway? Have our roots no meaning anymore?
like burton running alien workshop?
who gives a shit.
buy the product and stfu.
so much self righteousness.
if everyone is so worried, go buy 5boro and zoo york and support them.
youre not going to stop sheckler from buying more suv’s and jewelry.
Our roots come from surfing…
The Full Circle is almost complete.
Gotta get that money honey
Whats happening to skateboarding? Prepare to see plan be in a pacsun, ross, jcpenny, marshalls near you!
My roots have nothing to do with surfing and Zoo York is owned by Echo Clothing. Support skate owned brands like Black Label, Death Wish, Baker, Real, Krooked, Creature, etc… All they have is skateboarding unlike some holding company that doesn’t give a sh!t. AND YES IT MATTERS!
It’s the end of skateboarding as we know it for the last 20 years. Street-based companies are dead & buried, period. Sector 9 is the top selling company in the business nowadays, and it hasn’t happened by chance. It’s happened because it’s all about skateboarding diversity once again.
Am a big fan of the og Plan B,the one Mike Ternasky founded,i understand Danny and Colin’s are just trying to follow their dream and i guess Ternasky’s.But skateboarding nowadays is nothing like what is used to be,true skateboarding is dying, owned or directed or influence by surf, snowboard or big fat corporations that sometimes never gave a fuck about skateboarding or even hated it(now they love it for convenience) but the sadest part is that not only skateboarding is selling out,in some cases its just giving up the battle.Yeah, giving up because some of this companies ARE making huge amounts of money but they still just put their companies rigth in these corporate non skaters bussines men hands.Am not sure wich was Danny or Colin’s reasons to go this direction, and all i have is respect for them but skateboarding as a whole needs a reality check. This is the 3rd skateboarding boom,i think we all know where this is gonna end up once the cash cow is drained.I think Jason Jesse said it better:”i love skatebording i want to die”…

True skateboarding dying? True skateboarders aren’t whining about true skateboarding dying, they’re too busy keeping it alive.
WORD Brecht! quit bitchin start building.
with all this corporate ownership, skateboarding needs to unionize so we don’t get fuct in the long run.
I think this plan is great one which is Billabong Unites Element and Plan B,amazing.
