Starting in the NorthEast, Eastern Boarder is running an event called King of the Worm. What is King of the Worm? It’s a scavenger hunt type contest in which you use your skate skills and city knowledge to earn points for your team. The team with the most point’s (and video proof) at the end of the week wins. It’s just like Thrasher’s King of the Road except it’s in Worcester and you can actually do it. The Eastern Boarder Site has more on the rules.
New Jersey’s Garden SK8 is hosting two days of amateur contests. All ages are welcome to compete in the street, mini, and bowl contests. Bring your own food…and they’ll grill it for you.
PITCREW hosts the ES Game of Skate in Fredrick, MD. 2pm signup, 3pm start time. Check the Game of Skate site or Call 301-698-1813 for more info.

On July 30th, DC hosted an exclusive event featuring Peanut Butter Wolf at
The Standard, Downtown LA to kick off The Gold Standard 2009. In attendance
were over 300 industry influencers, including DC athletes Nick Dompierre,
Chad Cagy, Jolene Van Vugt, Ikka Backstrom, Kimmy Fasani, Aaron Bittner, and
Corey Bohan who made an appearance with Audrina Patridge.
Conceived by DC, The Gold Standard 2009 is a hosted hotel takeover held
during the 2009 Summer X Games, developed as a tribute to DC’s X Games
athletes over the past 15 years. DC, along with event partners Monster
Energy, Codemasters’ DiRT 2, New Era and presenting media partners FUEL TV
and TransWorld Media will occupy all 12 floors of the swanky hotel in the
heart of Los Angeles.
For the second year FUEL TV joined The Gold Standard 2009, bringing The
Daily Habit, a half-hour daily interview and variety show, on location to
the rooftop of The Standard Downtown LA where they filmed five episodes.
Each episode filmed today included interviews and footage with DC athletes,
as well as gave viewers an insider’s peek of The Gold Standard 2009

PDX In The WSJ
Posted by Derek - July 31st, 2009 9:54 am
There was a time not long ago when East Coast skaters dreamed of moving West to California for either temporary or permanent residence to beat the cold and to be in the heart of the skate world. Now, it seems, the best getaway may be Portland, Oregon.
Today’s Wall Street Journal online has a feature story on Portland’s grand design to have a ’skatepark system’ which, by the time it’s completed in 2020, will include 19 parks throughout the city.
Ripping Off Skate Artists
Posted by Chris - July 30th, 2009 9:06 am
We were tipped off to this article that points to a the Reload bag company. It seems these bozos are producing bags that feature the artwork of Jim Phillips, VCJ, Alien Workshop and Neil Blender and giving them NO part of the almost $400 price tag. What?
From Neil: “That bag is a shocker. They’re using all kinds of graphics from companies.Vision? T.Hawk? Weird, wonder what can be done? Wonder if they even sold any bags, terrible looking items.”
So if you run across these and get tempted to spend a grip of cash (we hope you would notice how shitty they are)…don’t. Support the skate companies who support the artists, not biters.
UPDATE:
You may have noticed R.E. Load pulled the skate bags off their website. We received many emails from our friends in the Philadelphia supporting R.E. Load. So to be fair tclick here to read a statement we received from R.E. Load via email.
