Johnny Romano – Roll Forever

The Romano family and immediate friends are asking for financial donations in lieu of flowers for Johnny’s funeral tomorrow in Spring, Texas. As you can imagine, the medical expenses have stacked up considerably for his hospital care and now, his burial. Please donate with generosity in love and memory of our fallen friend and fellow skater.
10th Annual Tim Brauch Memorial Contest this Weekend

The practice sessions are heating up for the 10th Annual Tim Brauch Memorial Contest which takes place this coming weekend. The street portion of the event takes place on Saturday at the Scotts Valley skatepark. The bowl contest will roll upon the new concrete at San Jose’s Lake Cunningham skatepark. Bring along your smiles and positive attitudes to share in the good times. Tim would certainly want it that way.
Puzzle Releases Its Newest Video

Europe’s Puzzle has released their latest video magazine online with heaps of action that include a Circa Tour In Greece, a Globe Tour in Denmark and Germany, and featured parts with Thibaud Fradin and Korahn Gayle. Download it right here from their site.
The New York Times Tackles Skate Shoes

In this New York Times online article the function vs. fashion of skates shoes is discussed and explained. The article talks to Mike Vallely (“I think skateboarding is more fashion than function…more rock ‘n’ roll than athletics.”) as well as the footwear directors of both DC and Vans. There is also an interesting audio slide show highlighting skaters of Manhattan Street Bridge and their shoes.

Habitat Team Rolls North of the Border

Habitat’s Canadian tour starts this Friday, September 26th in Winnipeg where the crew will be releasing their fellow Canadian Mike McDermott’s international pro models. With Marius Syvanen along for the trip as well, perhaps he has moved on from flow status? We certainly hope so.
Skaters Confront Salt Lake City’s Ramp Ban

According to this Salt Lake Tribune report the skating community in the greater Salt Lake City area has launched hundreds of complaints with the Salt Lake Valley Health Department stemming from last month’s ban on backyard skate ramps. The board will reconsider suspending this ridiculous ban next week.
Johnny Romano Passes Away…

It’s with heavy, heavy hearts that we report the passing of Johnny Romano. He will always represent the best things skateboarding has to offer and we will continue to push in his memory.
