Ryan’s Life

There’s no question that this weekend’s Dew Tour winner Ryan Sheckler is a great skateboarder and lives an extraordinary life, mainly due in part to his popular Life of Ryan show on MTv. While in Portland on Friday, The Oregonian had a short amount of time to interview Ryan on his success, excess, and passion for stress. Really?

A Decade Without Phil Shao

It’s hard to believe that 10 long years have already passed since Phil Shao was killed in an automobile accident. Phil’s good friend and Thrasher’s web lord, Schmitty has posted up a short video piece with his friends and peers to commemorate one of skateboarding’s greats. RIP Phil. You are dearly missed.

Vans’ Backyard Party 08

Vans is hosting its second annual mini ramp contest, known as the “Vans Backyard Party” on Saturday, September 20th at South-Parc on the south shore of Montreal. The ramp set up which resembles a backyard pool is looking really good with many, many features including diving board. Be there!

 

Epicly Later’d Returns in September

Gino Iannucci kicks off the second season of Epicly Later’d beginning on Thursday, September 4th. Check out the trailer which reveals one of his longer lines from 1993.

 

Shredding with a 35 Year Old

Perhaps the eldest in the business, Santa Cruz skateboards has reached its 35 year mark and is having a party of sorts on Friday, September 5th at the ASR show in San Diego. The celebration will be colored with appearances of skate and graphic art legends that have backed the brand over the years. Show up and get something signed.

    Broken Bones and Busted Boards?

    On Saturday, August 30th, Thrasher magazine is hosting another one of its carcass tosses titled as Bust or Bail at SF’s Paul Revere Elementary School, home of the hellacious 16-stair for an all out rail-ripping and stair-blasting extravaganza. The showdown will run for one hour only – from high noon to 1pm.
    Judged by Jake Phelps and John Cardiel with prize money as follows:
    $10,000 for 1st
    $7,000 for 2nd
    $5,000 for 3rd
    Plus a grip of additional money for miscellaneous stunts (including $1,000 for any female who ollies the stairs).
    Be prepared to witness Andrew Reynolds, Sean Malto, Corey Duffel, David Gravette, Nick Trapasso, Peter Ramondetta, Bryan Herman, Adam Dyet, Lizard King, Ernie Torres, Furby, Sierra Fellers, Dave Bachinsky, Nick Dompierre, Paul Rodriguez, and others as they go for the cash!
