Bam Working To Open Theater / Bar

According to links over at haveboard, Bam is having a rough time with his latest idea: opening a movie theater in downtown West Chester that serves liquor. He recent attended a Borough of West Chester Council meeting as they are trying to block him from getting a liquor license. Our favorite quote? “It’s not going to be like Jackass: The Bar”. Good luck Bam, it seems you’re going to need it.

Testing Functionality in Nor Cal

Just a few days prior to Christmas, a select and able crew received an invitation for a secretive skate session at the yet-to-be-opened Lake Cunningham skatepark. The reason was simple. An afternoon of test grinds and slashes upon the skate pacifier’s massive footprint located on the edge of Silicon Valley’s landscape. Check the overview photo!
Home to legendary “Skate Verterans”, Rick Blackhart and Steve Caballero, two or three thriving skate rock bands, a dozen or so hipster transplants and of course the colorful and skilled Tiltmode crew, the success of this San Jose, CA skatepark remains to be seen.
Leave the blades, bikes, scooters and heelies at home kids…this isn’t just another skatepark turned daycare facility. This one’s large and it’s gonna cost ya! Yup, word has it, come grand opening sometime in March of the new year, you’ll have to fork over $2 per session (with pads) plus a parking fee.
Meanwhile, the streets are still free.

Fully Flared Holiday Bonus

As an added bonus for the holidays, the guys at Skateperception have posted an insightful interview with ace lensman Ty Evans where he discusses behind-the-scenes details of Fully Flared. Sit back and and spend the time to read about Guys Mariano’s re-introduction to filming a full part, Ty’s learning from his own mistakes, and the progression of skate film making.

Head over to the Thrasher site and see what the Gonz has been up to lately. Two pages of images, top threes and questions about kickflipping bikes and inspiration.

    Checking in on Philly

Earlier in the week we posted some news that the city of Philadelphia has secured $1 million as a financial contribution towards the much needed and long overdue Franklin’s Paine skatepark project.
Have a look at the official site and view some large video clips and solid interviews with those involved and backing the effort including one of Philly’s street bred sons, Stevie Williams.

    Stereo 2007 Photo Montage

Head on over to the Stereo Sound Agency to check out a photo recap of their year that was. You can’t go wrong with Neil Diamond. And while you’re there, catch up with all things Stereo over at their blog section, where they roll three deep.

    Back in Axion?

Yesterday we’d received a news release to announce the re-launch of Axion branded footwear within the “action sports” market. Hmmm… will wakeboarders, snowboarders, FMXers and other extreme athletes stand to make financial gains in this rebirth? Is Kareem Campbell involved as well? Probably not. Only time will tell with this one. One thing we know for sure is that the URL for the website is still up for sale and will have to be negotiated.

    Skateboarding And Film

Starting off as a review of Gus Van Sant’s new film,
Paranoid Park, this Guardian UK website story wonders into skate culture film makers including Stacy Peralta and Spike Jonze. The author even brings up Adams, Hosoi and Gator.
This Larry Clark quote is pretty interesting: “There is more life in a skateboarder skating down the street than in a hundred Hollywood actors.” In this day and age, we have to agree.
