SkateboardDirectory.com has posted a report of the endorsement of a carbon fiber composite deck by vert veteran Tas Pappas. Does this information signify that Revolution skateboards’ technical advancements and entry into the marketplace will bring about the end of riding wooden decks in which we’ve been accustomed to over the past three decades?
Up until to now, there hasn’t been a viable alternative skateboard construction that delivers and matches the price and feel of maple (manufactured in the USA). We’ll just have to wait and see.

When we first received this flick we weren’t sure what to expect other than it would most likely contain a heap of east coast skate action and perhaps a few random hot chicks and party footage. Well, were right and the likes of Zared Basett, Dan Pensyl, Tio Razo, Bam Margera, Anthony Shetler, Charlie Wilkins, Aaron Suski and Rodney Torres pepper the screen with cameo appearances. Longer featured sections put the skills of hot ams Forrest H., Brandon Miller and Nick Dompierre into motion for your viewing pleasure. I should add that the accompanying hip hop soundtrack is probably good, but it doesn’t really do it for me. And although there are some good instrumental beats, I think there should be more of a mix of music to drive the skate action footage in this video…some guitars perhaps. In fact, I’d rather hit the mute button and fire up an old Van Halen, Thin Lizzy or Bad Brains album or heck, crank up some Slayer. But if you’re purely down for hip hop and skateboarding, the Posse video might be just what you’ve been looking for.
There’s a grip of skatepark footage (indoor street courses) and some East Coast skatespots that spice things up as well. But as a photographer and filmer I do have to say that the soft focus, dirty lenses and over exposed camera settings that show up repeatedly throughout this video are glaring mistakes and would rate very poor in any critique or film school project. Nonetheless, there are some fine gems that balance it all out.. Notably, the documented clean up efforts at NYC’s Brooklyn Banks was great to see and a very good cause on the part of the local city skaters.
If you want to locate this DVD release you’ll most likely have to search out a retail outfit on the East Coast. Or order it online here.

Bravo Sports To Acquire Variflex For $38M

From the press release: ‘Bravo Sports, a privately held maker of hard goods and accessories for the skateboard and in-line skating markets, signed a definitive agreement to acquire Variflex Inc. (VFLX) — which makes similar goods — for $38 million in cash.’ Aren’t these brands just toy companies? Yeah, but Bravo owns the Kyptonics name and (sadly) Variflex make completes that feature the Maple name as well as World Industries. How far they’ve fallen…
Carbon Fiber Skateboards?

Sounds strange, but Revolution Skateboards is releasing the Revdeck, a composite carbon fiber deck. The press release looks pretty official, but something tells us the 7 ply isn’t going anywhere.
