Vans, K2 and the business of skateboarding

VF (the apparel maker that recently purchased Vans to add to their stable of other clothing lines: Lee, Wrangler, Riders, Rustler, Vanity Fair, Lily of France, Nautica, JanSport, Eastpak, and The North Face) has hired the former CEO of a bankrupt pillow company as a new vice president. In other big business news, K2 (the parent company behind Planet Earth, Hawk and Adio shoes) also just announced they’ve added three more ski-realted companies to their fold which already includes Rawlings (a baseball equipment company), Worth (softball equipment), Brass Eagle and Worr Game Products (both paintball equipment companies), Shakespeare (fishing rods), Ex Officio (outdoor apparel), and RIDE snowboards. Last quarter K2 was $209 million dollars in debt…and these new buys will only add to that number.

    Another Hollywood skate movie?

Yup, and this one stars Dylan from 90210. Luke Perry and Haylie Duff are set to star in “Dishdogz,” which is decribed as “the story of a ne’er-do-well who finds himself working as a dishwasher with a former skating champ who takes him under his wing”. This Variety article lists Ryan Sheckler, Andy MacDonald, and Tony Alva(?) as the skaters being involved. Hasn’t Hollywood learned anything from ‘Grind’?

    Phil E, Skateboarding Lawyer

Need a lawyer to represent you in court over that skating ticket? Never thought you could find a suit that ‘understands’ skating? Check out Phil Esbenshade. He used to have a pro model on Skull Skates, was photographed by Spike, and (according to this Daily Bulletin article) skated with Tony Hawk. We like the fact that his favorite skate session ever involved skating a ditch with Neil Blender and Lance Mountain. You’re hired.
